What is authenticity?
Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries defines authenticity as ‘’ the quality of being genuine or true.” Being authentic means remaining loyal to yourself and your beliefs, regardless of the circumstances.
It could appear to be a simple task at first glance. But, to be authentic, you must have a deep awareness of yourself, be familiar with your core beliefs, and have the confidence to behave in a manner that accurately reflects who you are without worrying about what others may think.
The question now is, what exactly should one do to live an authentic life?
Here are some quick steps to take to be REAL:
1. Reflect
Each of us is innately beautiful and authentic, yet our circumstances can affect us in unhealthy ways. People we meet, conditions we encounter, and even our beliefs are some of the things that can influence us. We develop a sense of inadequacy or self-doubt as we mature. Due to our intense need to be liked, accepted, or integrated, we move away from our essence.
The more experienced we get, the more we wonder if we’re on the right track or if we’re just faking it. Rediscovering our essence is well worth the effort, despite its difficulty.
You could start by reflecting on the choices you’ve already made up to this point. Every action we take is infused with information, and if we train ourselves to observe it, we may recognize recurring themes and have profound epiphanies. Sit in stillness for a while and be open to whatever arises. Being present and letting go of your expectations can provide many insights.
Learn to doubt everything.
There are moments when we are operating on autopilot. When we challenge what we see or hear, we buy ourselves a brief moment of reflection and the opportunity to make a more enlightened choice—one that springs from the very core of who we are.
Make it a habit to explain to yourself why you are taking certain actions. Consider what might be hiding in the shadows. What is the reason for this? Which of your most fundamental desires are you hoping to gratify by doing this? What value is being met?
Use the available resources.
Ask your friends why they cherish your relationship. Take personality tests, and pay attention to recurring phrases. Find out what matters to you, your core values, what drives you, and what you’re willing to stand up for.
In the spaces between the words, you’ll find the truth.
2. Embrace yourself.
If you look closely enough, you will notice that your behavior up to this point has mirrored who you are as a person. No matter how hard we try, it is impossible to alter the fundamental nature of who we are. If you want to find happiness, it is essential to follow your heart, not the trends. It’s also a lot simpler being natural.
Learn to value who you are.
Embrace all your peculiarities. These are what set you apart from everyone else. Instead of trying to hide aspects of yourself, learn how to make the most of them. There is a demand for unique individuals who can look at problems from multiple angles and develop original approaches to resolving them. Instead of following the crowds, try to create a path uniquely designed for you and your personality.
3. Activate your powers.
Keep track of your energy levels and what surroundings and people make you feel the most enthusiastic. Pay attention to your physical sensations and your gut feelings. Look for the message they are seeking to express. Intuition is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it becomes.
You might begin by trying to listen to it with smaller topics to build up your confidence. Take the steps you feel comfortable with, and keep an eye on how things progress. You will eventually master it. Our bodies store an incredible amount of information. Learn how to make good use of it.
4. Live with Authenticity.
Authenticity is the only way to feel accomplished since it grants you the ability to express yourself to your potential. Making decisions becomes a lot simpler when you work from a place of clarity and self-awareness. Authenticity means bringing every facet of yourself into the light.
When you live in accordance with yourself, you will engage in more activities that bring you genuine pleasure. As a result, your inner power will shine through and make you feel at ease even when things get tough. Anything new is challenging. Aside from the willingness to change because you see the benefits, having a support team to help you manage the process smoothly is essential. Surround yourself with individuals who appreciate the significance of being true to oneself and who will support your transition.
When you begin this quest, approach it with an open mind and a sense of wonder about what the future holds for you. Keep in mind that this is a time-consuming process. It takes time. It will test your endurance while simultaneously motivating you and giving you a reason to have hope.
The results will make your life easier. Doing so is the first step toward leading a successful and satisfying existence.
